When your exchange and wallet histories do not agree

One exchange export rarely tells the whole story. A withdrawal may also appear in a wallet history, a closed account may leave a gap, and activity can span several years. Reconciliation connects the available records and makes differences visible.

  • Unmatched transfers: a movement appears in one source without a corresponding entry in another.
  • Incomplete coverage: an exchange, wallet, or earlier period is missing from the history.
  • Balance differences: the imported activity does not explain the holdings shown in your available records.

Start with a records review

The records review starts from $75 USD. It identifies your sources, the years they cover, and the issues that need attention. You receive an exchange and wallet inventory, a list of record gaps and warnings, and a written cleanup plan.

The review establishes what can be checked and what further records are needed. Transaction cleanup and reconciliation are scoped separately, starting from $200 USD.

What to prepare

  • The exchanges and wallets involved, including accounts you no longer use.
  • The years you want reviewed and the date range of each available export.
  • Existing transaction files, wallet histories, and a description of any software warnings.
  • Any known missing periods or movements that do not match.

Begin with a general overview. The required records and a suitable sharing method are agreed after the scope review.

What the reconciliation documents

Available activity is organized, potential transfer matches are reviewed, and duplicate or incomplete records are flagged. The notes connect corrections to their supporting sources and identify assumptions that need review.

Unrecoverable history stays visible in an open-items list. Missing evidence is documented so your tax preparer can assess it.

Exchange and wallet reconciliation FAQ

What information do I need to provide?

We work with your transaction history and exported records. You remain in control of your wallets and accounts throughout the process.

What if an old exchange account is unavailable?

Share what you still have and identify the missing period. The available evidence is reviewed, and any remaining gaps are documented.

Does a records review include transaction cleanup?

The records review identifies the sources and problems and gives you a cleanup plan. Cleanup is a separate agreed scope, starting from $200 USD.

Can I keep using my current tax preparer?

Yes. The record package can be handed to your existing CPA or EA for review. Tax advice and return filing are separate from the record work.

Separate a coverage gap from a transfer mismatch

A missing period and an unmatched movement call for different checks. The records review identifies the available evidence before the correction work is scoped.
